Footsteps for Fitness
Are you looking to ... Lose weight? Exercise more? Beat stress? Lower your risk of diseases? Improve blood pressure? Balance blood sugar levels? Enhance your mental well-being? 
 
If WELLNESS is your priority, St. Mary's of Michigan has a program designed just for you.

Take steps in the right direction by joining the St. Mary's of Michigan Footsteps for Fitness program.
 
There are many forms of exercise, but the simplest, least expensive and most accessible is walking.

The Footsteps for Fitness offers you the flexibility to log your progress by date, time, laps, steps or miles, so you can walk when it is convenient for you.

Because no two people are at the same fitness level, the Footsteps for Fitness program will count fitness days and award prizes based on your cumulative yearly total of fitness days.
 
Each participate will be invited to a yearly awards program in January.  Participants earn a yearly award based on their activity levels - so lets get started today!


Walking Locations:
The Footsteps for Fitness program offers you flexibility and variety. You're encouraged to walk at the indoor Footsteps for Fitness locations, a treadmill, join a gym, walk outside or use area rail trails when weather permits.
 
If you're using the off-site locations, you can download a walking log. Just remember to bring it to the awards ceremony in January. Only registered participants receive an invitation to the awards program.
 
Fashion Square Mall - located at 4787 Fashion Square Mall is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
 
A St. Mary's of Michigan Footsteps for Fitness kiosk is located near the main entrance.

Saginaw Township Recreation Center Courts - located at 3320 N.Center Road is open Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday 12 noon to 5 p.m.

Footsteps for Fitness Benefits:
St. Mary's of Michigan offers many educational programs, lunch and learns, support groups and trainings. Follow our monthly calendar of events at www.stmarysofmichigan.org 
 
Blood Pressure Screenings:
Fashion Square Mall - First Thursday of each month near food court entrance.
Center Courts - Second and fourth Wednesday upstairs near the walking track.

Walking Facts:
  • Walking 3 miles per day at 3.5 mph can increase your lifespan by 7-years
  • 3.5 mph is the optimum speed for walking for fitness
  • Approximately 2,000 steps equal one mile
  • To burn off one M & M, you must walk the length of a football field 10 minutes of rhythmic movement counts as an aerobic workout
  • One pound of body fat is equal to 3,500 calories
  • 9.5 times around Center Courts track is one mile
  • One trip around Fashion Square Mall (including the wings) is 9/10 of a mile
