Breast & Lung Cancer Nurse NavigatorGuiding Hand Makes a Difference
It has been an exciting year for Navigation. In June 2011, we went live with our Nurse Navigation software, Priority Consult. This program has increased our ability to track our breast care patients since the number of breast biopsy patients continues to grow. This allows us to provide efficient care and service to patients in a timely manner.
St. Mary’s of Michigan is in the process of starting a Wig Bank for chemotherapy patients. We have attended many health fairs educating the public on Breast Cancer Awareness, teaching self breast exams, and emphasizing the need for annual mammograms. Early detection is the best cure.
St. Mary’s of Michigan Foundation has established a Breast Care Fund that will assist qualifying uninsured patients with the cost of their mammogram. Donations can be made through the Foundation Department.
Recently a family wrote of our services, "Thank you for your caring support, information, and extras you provided to our family. It was very much appreciated”. A patient stated "I’m well aware of the fact that all of you were just doing your jobs. But to me, the point is, you do it so well.
As I left, I thought of the famous words of Clint Eastwood ‘You all made my day,’ and I thought about James Brown’s song ‘I Feel Good’.”
