Recreational Therapy
Award-Winning Programming The Recreational Therapy Department at St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital and Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) offers outstanding programs. The department is under the direction of the only Masters Prepared Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in the state of Michigan who is dually certified as an Activity Consultant.
Residents choose from a variety of leisure and recreational programs offered by the Recreational Therapy Department. The department is open 365 days a year.
Pet Therapy Pet therapy is an important part of the day for many residents. The facility has a golden retreiver named Casey, and over a dozen zebra finches in the bird aviary.
Special Events & Trips Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) residents select which special events they would like to pursue each month:
* Mall shopping * Restaurant dining * Fishing trip * Local theatre * Fall color tour * Ice Capades
Residents especially look forward to planning their biannual vacation. They select the summer destination, and plan fundraisers to pay for the trip. Previous vacations included:
* Niagara Falls * Lion Safari in Canada * Sea World * Kewadin Casino and Falls Trip in the Upper Peninsula * Holland Tulip Festival * Detroit Zoo

Companion Radio The Skilled Nursing Facility offers a satellite broadcast of four old time radio stations from New York. Residents are able to enjoy the following stations:
* Reminiscence Station - residents tune in to the music from the 1920s, 30s, and 40s - the prime of their lives.
* Imagination Station - Classic theater programs from days when radio was "king" stir memories of families gathering around the radio to listen to their favorite shows.
* Serenity Station - Programming designed to help meet the challenges of caring for residents with Alzheimer's Disease.
* Potpourri Station - alert and active residents enjoy the stimulation, especially after hours: games, exercise classes, and senior-oriented news and current events.
